UK Allocates £200 Million to Manufacture Drones for Ukraine

Friday, 12 January 2024

The UK will allocate £200 million to manufacture various drones for the Ukrainian military.

"We are also providing £200 million to build thousands of drones. This is the largest drone package that any country has provided to Ukraine," UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said at a press conference with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Since this is a matter of manufacturing new drones, they will presumably be produced in Ukraine. However, the leaders did not go into detail about that.

"The drones that we are providing will help hit Russian forces and help drive Russia out of Ukraine, as well as reduce the risks to Ukrainian exports across the Black Sea. (This drone package will include) reconnaissance drones, long-range attacking drones, and FPV drones," Sunak said.

"There are other things that we are providing, but I don't want to disclose operational details," he said.

Sunak refused to be drawn on whether the UK would allow these weapons, particularly drones, to be used against military targets in the Russian Federation.

He also noted that the UK has provided Ukraine with nearly £12 billion worth of aid since the war started.

As reported, Rishi Sunak, during a visit to Kyiv, has announced a large package of military assistance for Ukraine worth £2.5 billion.

In addition, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a bilateral security agreement at a meeting in Kyiv on Friday.
