Kremlin "generally ready" for Trump-Putin meeting, but specific date undecided

Monday, 27 October 2025 —

Yuri Ushakov, an aide to Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin, has stated that Russia maintains "general readiness" to hold a summit between Putin and US President Donald Trump, which has been postponed indefinitely.

Ushakov said in an interview with Russian propagandist Pavel Zarubin there are "no benchmarks" regarding the timing of the Trump-Putin meeting.

"But general readiness to hold the meeting, if it is thoroughly prepared by experts in advance, remains," he added.

Ushakov also pointed out that the Alaska summit in August 2025 was organised fairly quickly.

Trump cancelled his planned meeting with Putin in Budapest and said he is disappointed with the pace of negotiations with Russia.

Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó accused "the pro-war political elite" of trying to disrupt the Trump-Putin meeting in Budapest.

Putin, commenting on Trump's statement about cancelling the bilateral meeting in Budapest, mentioned its possible "postponement".
