Zelenskyy: Europe close to decision on transferring frozen Russian assets to Ukraine
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said that European countries are close to a decision on transferring frozen Russian assets to Ukraine.
As reported by Ukrinform, Zelenskyy noted that if a decision on the Russian assets is eventually made, "no one will be able to stop it afterwards".
"Regardless of any changes or the policies of future G7 leaders, whoever takes office will not be able to prevent the decision on the timing of Ukraine receiving this money in tranches and on its allocation, whether for weapons or other purposes. That is our political victory. God willing, they [Europe] will push through the political and practical implementation of this. They are very close," Zelenskyy said.
Zelenskyy also stressed the importance of continuous financial support for Ukraine from Western partners as part of the pressure on Russia.
"For Putin, the scariest thing [in the decision] on the Russian assets is that Europe has sent a signal: there is no point in Putin continuing to try to wear down Ukraine. Because there will be no financial exhaustion. And this needs to be understood," he added.
As European Pravda previously reported, on 23 October, the European Council adopted conclusions on Ukraine which no longer include a direct reference to the use of frozen Russian assets to support Ukraine.
It was primarily Belgium that had pushed for changes to the wording of the conclusions regarding the use of frozen Russian assets.
However, the EU has stated that the issue of using frozen Russian assets to support Ukraine remains on the agenda, and a final decision will be made in December 2025.
