Zelenskyy tells about meeting with Moldovan president in The Hague

Tuesday, 16 December 2025 —

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said that at a morning meeting with his Moldovan counterpart Maia Sandu in The Hague, they discussed the ongoing negotiations on a potential peace agreement, Ukraine's accession to the EU and bilateral issues.

Zelenskyy noted that at the meeting he thanked Sandu for Moldova's support.

"We discussed possible areas for partnership and agreed on further contacts. I also informed the president about our efforts toward peace, security, and the reconstruction of Ukraine after the war ends. We must continue to put pressure on Russia and counter all possible manifestations of Russian threats. We addressed this as well.

An important issue is also our shared path toward membership in the European Union. Further progress by Ukraine and Moldova must be simultaneous and closely coordinated," Zelenskyy wrote on X.

On 11 December, the EU announced the launch of a new format of technical negotiations with Ukraine that are not dependent on Hungary's veto.
