Media: Putin's envoy Dmitriev to travel to Davos for meetings with Americans

Monday, 19 January 2026 —

Kirill Dmitriev, a special envoy of Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin, has said that this week he will visit the Swiss resort of Davos and hold meetings with members of the US delegation on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum.

According to two Reuters sources familiar with the visit who spoke on condition of anonymity, Rustem Umierov, Ukraine's chief negotiator and Secretary of Ukraine's National Security and Defence Council, said on Sunday that talks with US officials on resolving the nearly four-year war with Russia would continue at the World Economic Forum this week.

Trump will attend this year's annual meeting in person after addressing participants last year via video link. He will be accompanied by a large US delegation.

According to Axios, Dmitriev's meeting with Trump envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner will take place on 20 January.

The Kremlin said it was preparing to host Trump envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner in Moscow for peace talks on Ukraine but that dates had not yet been set.

Dmitriev visited the US in December and held two days of talks with Witkoff and Kushner. After returning from the trip, he briefed Putin on the results of the talks.

As European Pravda reported, representatives of 35 countries and organisations met in Paris on 6 January to finalise work on security guarantees for Ukraine. Following the meeting, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron and President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a declaration of intent to deploy troops in Ukraine in the event a peace agreement is reached.

From the US side, Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner attended the meeting.

Witkoff also said there had been significant progress after the meeting of the Coalition of the Willing in Paris.
