Macron: Several thousand troops could be deployed to Ukraine after ceasefire is reached

French President Emmanuel Macron has announced that several thousand French troops could be deployed to help maintain peace in Ukraine after a ceasefire is implemented.

As reported by Franceinfo, Macron said that "several thousand troops" from the French armed forces would take part in operations to monitor the Russia-Ukraine border following the signing of a truce.

"These forces will not be involved in combat operations," he emphasised.

He also added that France would participate in rebuilding the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni told European and US partners that Italy will not deploy its troops to Ukraine as part of future security guarantees.

Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever stated that his country will provide air and maritime capabilities to help maintain peace in Ukraine after the war.

Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson said that Stockholm is willing to provide Ukraine with Gripen fighter jets and resources for demining the Black Sea after a peace agreement with Russia is signed.

Members of the Coalition of the Willing, Ukraine and the US signed a joint declaration on security guarantees aimed at achieving a stable and lasting peace in Ukraine.
