Romanian president signals readiness to strengthen security in the Black Sea after Paris talks

Romanian President Nicușor Dan has stated that Bucharest is willing to contribute to maintaining peace in Ukraine once a ceasefire is in place, outlining how Romania could participate in security guarantees.

Dan attended the Coalition of the Willing meeting held in Paris on 6 January.

"We agreed on the need for continued support for Ukraine and strong security guarantees, preventing another war in our region," Dan wrote on X following the latest meeting of the Coalition of the Willing.

Dan emphasised that peace talks have now reached a critical stage.

He also noted that Romania is willing to contribute by continuing its support for Ukraine and strengthening security in the Black Sea.

"Our common aim is to achieve a just and lasting peace, based on respect for international law," he said.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni told European and US partners that Italy will not deploy its troops to Ukraine as part of future security guarantees.

Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever stated that his country will provide air and maritime capabilities to help maintain peace in Ukraine after the war.

Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson said that Stockholm is willing to provide Ukraine with Gripen fighter jets and resources for demining the Black Sea after a peace agreement with Russia is signed.

Members of the Coalition, Ukraine and the US signed a joint declaration on security guarantees aimed at achieving a stable and lasting peace in Ukraine.
