Zelenskyy and Moldovan president in Cyprus discuss coordinated path to EU

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who is on a visit to Cyprus, has had a meeting with Moldova's President Maia Sandu to discuss the two countries' path towards the European Union.

Zelenskyy said that Ukraine and Moldova's shared path to EU membership should be coordinated.

"We are working closely on this matter, and today I discussed it with President Maia Sandu, focusing primarily on the simultaneous opening of the first negotiating clusters," Zelenskyy wrote on X.

The two leaders also focused on bilateral cooperation in trade, energy and security. They also discussed strengthening trilateral cooperation between Ukraine, Moldova and Romania.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in Cyprus on 7 January, which is beginning its term holding the presidency of the Council of the European Union.

As part of the visit, Zelenskyy held talks with Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides, where they discussed progress towards opening negotiating clusters.
