Russian drone once again found in Türkiye

Thursday, 12 February 2026 —

Türkiye's Ministry of National Defence has stated that an unmanned aerial vehicle discovered on the shore in the Ünye district of Ordu province likely belongs to Russia.

As reported by Turkish daily newspaper Hurriyet, the unidentified drone was found on the coastline in Ünye on 10 February. A special forces team was dispatched to the scene and handed the UAV over to the police for further examination.

The drone did not contain explosives and is believed to belong to Russia.

This is not the first case of Russian UAVs falling in Türkiye.

In December, a Russian Orlan-10 reconnaissance drone was discovered in Türkiye's Kocaeli province near the city of Izmit.

Earlier, Turkish fighter jets shot down an "out-of-control" drone that had flown from the Black Sea.

At the time, Türkiye did not disclose who owned the drone but warned both Russia and Ukraine to exercise greater caution regarding security in the Black Sea.
