Trump on operation against Iran: We haven't even started yet

Monday, 2 March 2026 —

US President Donald Trump, commenting on the American operation against Iran, has said the country's military is "knocking the crap" out of Iran, but that the "big wave" is still to come.

CNN noted that during the interview, Trump touched on a wide range of topics, including how long the conflict could last.

"We're knocking the crap out of them. I think it's going very well. It's very powerful. We've got the greatest military in the world and we're using it," he said.

Regarding how long the fighting might continue, Trump said he did not want the conflict to drag on.

"I always thought it would be four weeks. And we're a little ahead of schedule," Trump said.

Asked whether the US was doing anything beyond military action to help the Iranian people regain control of their country from the regime, Trump replied in the affirmative.

"We are indeed. But right now we want everyone staying inside. It's not safe out there … We haven't even started hitting them hard. The big wave hasn't even happened. The big one is coming soon."

On the morning of 28 February, US President Donald Trump announced that the United States had launched a large-scale operation against Iran. Israel also carried out strikes.

In response, Iran launched attacks on the territory of several Persian Gulf countries where US facilities are located.

Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth said that it was not the United States that started this war, but that it would be the one to end it.
