Ukraine Demands Investigation into Disinformation in CBS Film

Monday, 8 August 2022

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Dmytro Kuleba, called on the American CBS to conduct an internal investigation into a film "Arming Ukraine" with false information that only 30% of Western weapons make it to the frontline.

CBS Reports has released a documentary, "Arming Ukraine," about military aid for Ukraine. It stated that only 30% of Western arms supplies ultimately reach their final destination, the frontline.

After publishing the film, CBS updated the material "to reflect changes after the filming of the documentary." CBS also promised to change the film itself.

In particular, they have removed the quote of the founder of the nonprofit Blue-Yellow, Jonas Ohman, that only around 30% of aid was reaching the front lines in Ukraine. CBS tweeted on Monday that it had removed a video promoting the documentary

"Jonas Ohman says that after filming with CBS, the delivery has improved significantly. The US had sent an official, Brigadier General Garrick M. Harmon, to Kyiv specifically to monitor the use of military aid," CBS stated.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Dmytro Kuleba, welcomed the CBS decision but noted it was not enough.

"You have misled a huge audience by sharing unsubstantiated claims and damaging trust in supplies of vital military aid to a nation resisting aggression and genocide. There should be an internal investigation into who enabled this and why," Kuleba wrote on Twitter.
