Moldova Approved Bridge to Ukraine over Dniester

Monday, 31 July 2023

On Monday, the Moldovan parliament ratified the intergovernmental agreement between Ukraine and Moldova regarding the construction of a bridge over the Dniester River, connecting the Moldovan border village of Cosăuţi and the Ukrainian city of Yampil.

According to NewsMaker, 57 Moldovan MPs supported the decision to ratify the agreement for the construction of the bridge over the Dniester.

As per the project, the Ukrainian government will finance the technical design of the bridge, including its construction and the necessary infrastructure on its territory, while the Moldovan government will do the same on its side.

According to the Moldovan State Road Administration, the future bridge will have a length of 641 meters. It will feature two traffic lanes, two safety lanes, two bicycle lanes, two pedestrian lanes, and an approximately 667-meter viaduct from the Ukrainian side.

The pillars in some parts of the bridge will reach 40 meters, and its capacity will allow the passage of five thousand vehicles per day.

The bridge is to be operational by 2025.

Kyiv hopes that the bridge will link the crucial transportation corridor between the Ukrainian capital and Chişinău, opening the shortest route for Ukrainian exporters from the center of Ukraine to Central and Southeastern European countries, bypassing the occupied region of Transnistria controlled by Russia.
