German Government Has Not Made Any Decisions on Transferring Taurus Missiles to Ukraine – Bild

Friday, 11 August 2023

The German government has stated that preparations for delivering Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine are not currently underway.

Bild recalled Spiegel’s information, according to which the German government is considering possibly supplying the Ukrainian army with Taurus from the Bundeswehr stockpiles in the coming months.

The report states that the Ministry of Defence asked the manufacturer to incorporate into the cruise missile limitations for programming targets. The German government wants to prevent Ukrainian attacks on military facilities in Russia.

However, Bild claims, neither Chancellor Scholz's office nor the Ministry of Defence "knows about the upcoming or has already decided in favour of the German cruise missile".

"Currently, no decision on this matter is being prepared," an unnamed high-ranking government official told the media. Despite pressure from all sides to decide on Taurus, "nothing is moving currently", he added.

The spokeswoman for the Ministry of Defence also informed the media outlet that there have been no changes in the current situation regarding the transfer of the Taurus to Ukraine. "The political decision on the transfer has not been made," she said.

Meanwhile, members of the German Bundestag called on the government to provide long-range Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine as soon as possible.
