US Has No Plans to Meet with Russian Government at APEC Summit

Wednesday, 15 November 2023

The United States has not planned to hold any meetings with Russian representatives as part of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in San Francisco.

"I am not aware of any meetings scheduled between us and the Russian Government at APEC," US State Department Spokesman Matthew Miller said.

The APEC summit is being held this week in San Francisco. A delegation led by the Deputy Prime Minister will represent Russia there.

On Wednesday, Biden will meet Chinese President Xi Jinping in person during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit, for the first time in a year. The American leader said his goal during the negotiations with Xi is to restore normal communication between the two countries, including military-to-military contacts.

The White House previously noted that Joe Biden would bring up the need to restore communication channels between the armed forces of both countries during talks with Xi Jinping in San Francisco on 15 November.

Earlier, it was reported that at the meeting in San Francisco, which will be the first for this year for Biden and Xi, they will discuss bilateral relations between the United States and China, the importance of maintaining communication channels, as well as "a number of regional and global issues".
