NATO Denies Statements That Ukrainian Military Leadership Has No War Plan

Wednesday, 29 November 2023

The North Atlantic Alliance has insisted that statements and assumptions heard in Ukraine that Ukraine's Armed Forces' leaders have had no plan to achieve military goals are incorrect.

The Alliance general, who spoke anonymously at a briefing in Brussels, emphasised that Ukraine's partners do not impose a specific approach in waging war on Ukraine's Armed Forces, as they believe that the Armed Forces determine planning more effectively on their own. The allies' task is to support Ukraine by providing the necessary weapons.

At the same time, the Alliance's representative denied the assumptions from some politicians in Ukraine that "[General Valerii] Zaluzhnyi has no plan". (Zaluzhnyi is the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine – ed.)

"The way General Zaluzhnyi described the situation is accurate. At the same time, when President Zelenskyy says that progress is not fast enough, it is also true. Meanwhile, Zaluzhnyi did not claim that he had no plan. Because he has! However, implementing this plan is a challenging task, even with the West's support for Ukraine," he explained.

He also emphasised the importance of the Armed Forces' individual successful operations.

"The fact that they managed to achieve [such gains] on the Black Sea proves that Ukraine is extremely successful and has a plan to succeed," the NATO general noted.

Ukraine's Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba at a meeting in Brussels rejected ideas and proposals on territorial compromise with Russia.
