Slovakia Extends and Indefinitely Prolongs Ban on Import of Agricultural Products from Ukraine

Wednesday, 29 November 2023

The Slovak government has supported the prolongation of the ban on agricultural products from Ukraine for an indefinite period and extended the list of goods it concerns.

The previous Slovakian ban concerned four goods, namely wheat, corn, rapeseed and sunflower seeds. The restriction was supposed to last by the end of the year.

According to the decree of the Ministry of Agriculture and Development of Rural Areas of Slovakia, honey, barley, wheat flour, malt, soya beans, cane and beet sugar, bran, cattle cake and other solid residues obtained as a result of extraction of vegetable fats and oils are added to the list.

On Friday, the European Commission announced that it would not extend restrictions on imports of agricultural products from Ukraine after 15 September, but Kyiv agreed to take measures to limit imports from its side.

However, PolandHungary and Slovakia have decided to impose unilateral restrictions, with Warsaw saying their restrictions will remain in place indefinitely.

The European Commission observes no adverse effects of Ukrainian agricultural imports on European markets.
