Zelenskyy offers Ukraine's partners joint shield to protect against aerial threats from Russia

Monday, 29 September 2025 —

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has proposed the establishment of a joint system of protection against aerial threats, which Poland and other partners of Ukraine could join.

Zelenskyy mentioned in a speech at the Warsaw Security Forum recent violations of Polish and Estonian airspace and incidents involving unidentified drones in Northern Europe. In his opinion, this is how "Russia is testing how far it can go".

He stressed that there should be a joint, rapid response to Russia's actions, using all available means.

"Ukraine proposes to Poland and all our partners to build a joint, truly reliable shield against Russian aerial threats. And this is possible," Zelenskyy said.

"Ukraine can counter all types of Russian drones and missiles, and if we act together in the region, we will have enough weapons and production capacity for this," he added.

The Ukrainian leader said that if Russia loses the ability to strike from the air, "it will be unable to continue the war and will have to look for other ways to coexist".

The European Union is currently discussing the idea of establishing a "drone wall" relying on technologies that have been battle-tested in Ukraine.

Kyiv has repeatedly called on neighbouring states to help shoot down Russian aerial assets in Ukraine's airspace, but such calls have not found support.
