WP: Trump complained about not receiving Nobel Peace Prize during meeting with Zelenskyy
US President Donald Trump reportedly "went on and on" about not receiving the Nobel Peace Prize during his meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the White House last week.
"A European diplomat briefed on the White House meeting described the meeting as a mess and said Trump also 'went on and on' about 'his grievances of not having got the Nobel Peace Prize'," a source told The Washington Post.
Regarding the war, Trump's message was that "Russia only wants Donbas and this is a good deal and Putin wants to end the war and it can be done quickly".
Trump left the meeting calling for a ceasefire along the current front line – a stance that the Ukrainian president has endorsed.
When he was asked later whether he had urged Zelenskyy to give up Donbas, Trump replied that he had not.
Zelenskyy said he explained during the meeting with Trump that Ukraine's position on not retreating from the non-occupied parts of its eastern oblasts remains unchanged.
The White House criticised the Nobel Committee, accusing them of placing "politics over peace", after Trump did not receive this year's Peace Prize.
