EU says Greenland dispute does not affect work on security guarantees for Ukraine

Work on security guarantees for Ukraine, which the European Union and the United States plan to provide after a peace deal is signed, has continued at full speed despite EU-US discussions over Greenland.

European Commission spokesperson Anitta Hipper said  at a press conference in Brussels that the stand-off between the EU and the US over Greenland's status has not affected efforts on security guarantees for Ukraine.

"I can only confirm that the work continues at full speed as before. Nothing has changed in this regard and in our unwavering support towards Ukraine," Hipper said when asked whether the EU plans to include Greenland in talks with the US on security guarantees for Ukraine.

Europeans in Davos are preparing to talk to Trump about Greenland rather than Ukraine, sources told European Pravda.

The Ukrainian negotiating team has held meetings in Florida aimed at finalising arrangements with American partners on security guarantees and Ukraine's economic prosperity.

On 17 January, the US president announced the introduction of tariffs from 1 February on several countries that do not agree with his position on Greenland.

Denmark has sent military equipment to Greenland and an advance detachment of troops to prepare for the arrival of larger forces from its military and other allied units for military exercises. Several countries have also sent their troops.
