Zelenskyy says Ukraine is aware of Russia's "Anchorage formula"

Friday, 30 January 2026 —

President Volodymyr Zelensky has stated that Ukraine did not receive any official information about any agreements between US President Donald Trump and Russian leader Vladimir Putin in Alaska, but that Kyiv had an understanding of what was most likely discussed there.

Commenting on statements from the Russian side about the alleged existence of an "Anchorage formula" regarding the status of Donbas, Zelenskyy said that he had no official information about what agreement was reached between the US and Russia.

"In the end, everyone will find out everything – it is only a matter of time. But we do have signals that key issues were discussed there," he explained, referring primarily to the issue of territories.

Zelenskyy said that those negotiations ultimately harmed Ukraine and are still preventing Kyiv from defending its position.

"I believe that the difficult issues we are addressing today are so complex precisely because they were discussed earlier in some format. If they had only one meeting, then it is not hard to understand that during the meeting in Alaska they most likely talked about Donbas, as well as about what to do in general with the temporarily occupied territories and, I believe, about frozen Russian assets," he added.

Earlier, the Kremlin reported on Putin's recent meeting with Trump's envoys.

At the same time, Moscow has repeatedly stated that Russia will not support the US "peace plan" if there are significant changes compared to the agreements allegedly reached in Anchorage, which have not been made public and have not been denied so far. However, only the Russian side has so far confirmed the existence of these agreements.
