Security advisers from four European countries reportedly attend Geneva talks on ending war in Ukraine

Tuesday, 17 February 2026 —

Security advisers from the UK, France, Germany and Italy have arrived in Geneva, where trilateral talks on ending the Russo-Ukrainian war are taking place.

La Stampa, citing diplomatic sources, said the European security advisers are monitoring the course of the negotiations between the US, Ukraine and Russia.

Representatives of the UK, France, Germany and Italy are expected to hold meetings with the American and Ukrainian delegations.

Ukraine's chief negotiator Rustem Umierov reported on Tuesday 17 February that a new round of peace talks began in Geneva, adding that delegations will focus on security and humanitarian issues.

Russia launched a large-scale strike on Ukraine on the night of 16-17 February ahead of the talks.

US President Donald Trump has said ahead of trilateral talks in Geneva that Ukraine "better come to the table fast".

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy hopes the negotiations with the US and Russia on a potential end to the war will not be slowed down by the changes in the Russian negotiating team.
