US reports strikes on military targets on Iran's Kharg Island
CNN, citing a US official and a White House representative, reported that the United States carried out strikes on the night of 6-7 April against military targets on Iran's Kharg Island.
As reported by CNN, the official said that the strikes were not targeting oil facilities.
According to NBC News, dozens of Iranian military targets on Kharg Island were hit by US strikes.
A US official said the operation involved American airstrikes along the island's northern coastline and did not include the deployment of US ground forces.
The strikes targeted military bunkers and storage facilities, air defence systems and other military infrastructure.
Previously, the United States carried out strikes on Kharg Island on 13 March. At the time, US Central Command reported that 90 targets had been hit, including "naval mine storage sites, missile storage bunkers, and numerous other military facilities."
Earlier, US President Donald Trump stated that the United States could destroy Iran "tonight", demanding that the Strait of Hormuz be reopened by a deadline set by Washington at 20:00 Eastern Time on 7 April.
He also said that the US is capable of destroying Iran "within four hours" and has a plan in place if Tehran does not unblock the Strait of Hormuz by Tuesday.
