Lithuanian intelligence: Russia may use Ukrainian drones to attack Baltic states

Lithuanian military intelligence has said it has information indicating that Russia is considering using Ukrainian-made drones to attack critical infrastructure in the Baltic region.

As reported by LRT, a Lithuanian public broadcaster, Russia may use captured Ukrainian drones in an attempt to create uncertainty about the origin of an attack and deny responsibility for strikes on NATO territory.

Lithuanian Defence Minister Robertas Kaunas confirmed the intelligence agency's assessment.

"We have data indicating that Russia is considering carrying out unconventional kinetic attacks against critical infrastructure in the Baltic region. It is likely that Russia could use Ukrainian-made drones for this purpose," Kaunas said.

Kaunas did not provide details about potential targets or the timing of possible attacks.

The Polish government's Committee on National Security considered a possible Russian false flag operation in which Russia could use drones bearing Ukrainian markings.

Leaders of NATO's eastern flank countries recently issued public warnings, citing intelligence indicating that Russia is preparing provocations on their territory.

Lithuania believes that if Russian provocations in the region lead to a critical security situation, NATO countries will deploy additional military forces to the Baltic state.

Latvia has strengthened the protection of critical infrastructure due to possible Russian provocations.
