“We Want to Support Ukraine in Whatever They Feel Victory," U.S. Charge D’Affaires

Monday, 16 May 2022

US Chargé d'Affaires Kristina Kvien noted that Ukraine should win the war with Russia but must decide for itself what to consider a victory.

She said this in an interview with "European Pravda."

"Ukraine should win the war. And it's not us, but Ukraine should decide the terms for victory. The Ukrainian government and the Ukrainian people should make a determination about what victory means for them and what they are willing to accept or not accept. We want to support Ukraine in whatever they feel victory," Kvien stated.

She noted that the United States supports ending the war, which guarantees greater security for Europe - to make Russia less threatening to its neighbors and the continent in general, and Ukraine feel more secure.

"Secretary Austin has said that it is a goal of our work to see Russia strategically weaker. Otherwise, President Putin might do something as irresponsible as he has done in Ukraine in other places. We also avoid talking about whether you need negotiations and any kind of agreement with Russia on the way to victory or not. It must be your decision", added the US Chargé d'Affaires.

As reported, on May 15, US Secretary Antony Blinken expressed confidence that Ukraine would withstand the war that began with a full-scale Russian invasion.

Secretary General of NATO Jens Stoltenberg also says that Ukraine can win the war.
