Miniature of the Independence Monument Unveiled in Brussels

Tuesday, 26 July 2022

The official opening ceremony of the miniature Monument of Independence of Ukraine, located in the heart of Kyiv, took place in Brussels' "Mini Europe" park on Tuesday.

The initiative was implemented thanks to the Embassy of Ukraine in Belgium and the management of the "Mini Europe" park.

"This monument is the first installation from a non-EU country. It is very symbolic and means that Ukraine will join the EU soon," said Natalia Anoshina, Charge d'Affaires of Ukraine in Belgium, to European Pravda.

She added the park placed the Ukrainian miniature as a sign of solidarity with Ukraine and support in the fight against the Russian aggressor.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed confidence that "this symbolic step in the form of a Ukrainian miniature among the EU member states will certainly have its practical implementation in the form of Ukraine's official EU accession."

In June, the European Council granted Ukraine and Moldova EU candidate status.

Recently, the European Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement, Olivér Várhelyi, said that Russia's war in Ukraine sobered up the discussion around enlargement as well as the EU's absorption capacity.
