Ukraine, with more than a dozen partner countries and the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, coordinated the steps to bring to justice those involved in war crimes committed by the Russian Federation in Ukraine.

The meeting occurred in New York since many foreign ministers arrived for the UN General Assembly. The event was jointly organized by Ukraine, the Netherlands, Denmark, and Germany. In addition to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ukraine was represented by Prosecutor General Andrii Kostin and Deputy Minister of Justice Iryna Mudra.

Among the partner countries, the foreign ministers of Germany, the UK, Latvia, Estonia, Slovenia, Liechtenstein, Finland, Albania, Poland, Iceland, and Canada, as well as the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, Karim Khan, were present.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ukraine and its partners have coordinated steps to investigate and identify all responsible for war crimes, crimes of genocide, and crimes against humanity committed by the Russian leadership and the Russian military in Ukraine.

In his speech, Dmytro Kuleba noted that bringing the Russian military and leadership to justice should not be limited to a trial at the International Criminal Court. He called on partners to establish a Special Tribunal for the Crime of Aggression Against Ukraine.

He also called for the creation of a comprehensive compensation mechanism for damages caused by Russian aggression against Ukraine. Kuleba added that Ukraine would prepare a draft resolution for the UN General Assembly on this issue in October.

As previously reported, on September 22, President Zelensky established a working group for creation of a Special Tribunal to punish Russia, including Minister Dmytro Kuleba and Prosecutor General Andrii Kostin.
