French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz have personally assured President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of their support for "as long as necessary".

"It fights for peace and carries the values of our European Union: Ukraine will never be alone," Macron wrote on Twitter an hour after dinner at the Élysée Palace with Zelenskyy and Scholz.

"Ukraine is fighting back heroically – with courage, bravery and perseverance – against the brutal Russian aggression. Together with Emmanuel Macron, I personally assured Volodymyr Zelenskyy today in Paris: We stand closely by Ukraine's side – for as long as necessary," wrote Scholz.

As reported, Zelenskyy arrived in Paris on Wednesday evening, 8 February, where he had a closed-door dinner with the leaders of France and Germany.

Macron confirmed during the meeting with Zelenskyy that he wanted to "support Ukraine to victory and peace" and that Russia cannot and should not win.

"We will also insist that war crimes committed by Russian soldiers be punished," Macron said.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak signed the UK–Ukraine Declaration of Unity (London Declaration) during Zelenskyy’s visit to the UK on Wednesday, 8 February. The declaration aims to deepen cooperation between Kyiv and London.
