Ukrainian Parliament Asks EU and WTO for New Sanctions against Russia and Belarus: Fish and Timber on List

The Verkhovna Rada has appealed to the European Commission, European Parliament, Council of the EU, World Trade Organisation, governments, and parliaments of foreign countries to impose sanctions against Russian and Belarusian timber, fish, and seafood.

According to MP Oleksii Honcharenko of the European Solidarity party, the Ukrainian parliament voted for the corresponding resolution on Tuesday. In the appeal, Rada asks for sanctions against Russian and Belarusian timber and products made from it, as well as fish and seafood from Russia.

In addition, Rada asks to ban the sale, supply, transfer, export, leasing of equipment and its components used for logging, timber processing, fish and seafood harvesting and processing in Russia and Belarus.

Furthermore, Rada asks to ban the servicing of such equipment and to cancel all certificates of Russian products by environmental certification systems that operate within Russia.

According to the media, the European Union intends to ban the transit of many goods via Russia in the 11th sanctions package (Ukr).

As the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs claims, this package is to be approved by the end of May (Ukr).
