The buildings of the European Commission, the European Council, and the European Parliament in Brussels have been lit up in blue and yellow colours on the occasion of Ukraine's Independence Day.

"Light blue as the sky above Ukraine, yellow as its fields. On the eve of Ukraine Independence Day, the Ukrainian flag illuminates our headquarters in Brussels.

We pay tribute to the brave Ukrainians who fight for the future of their country," the European Commission said on Twitter.

"Ahead of Ukraine's Independence Day tomorrow, the EU Council's Europa building shines bright in yellow and blue tonight, as a symbol of our strong support to Ukraine," Charles Michel, President of the European Council, said.

"The blue and yellow colours symbolise the courage & resilience of the brave people of Ukraine. They unite us & represent Ukraine’s European future. And tonight they illuminate our EU Parliament as we join our Ukrainian friends in celebrating Independence Day," Roberta Metsola, President of the European Parliament, said.

In addition, the building of the Diplomatic Service of the European Union was illuminated in blue and yellow colours.

"We honour the brave Ukrainian people who are bravely defending their nation and their future. On the eve of the Ukrainian Independence Day, the Diplomatic Service of the European Union is lit up in Ukraine’s blue and yellow," Josep Borrell, EU High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy, wrote.
