Residents of Estonia have donated 158,400 euros for building bomb shelters in schools in eastern Ukraine.

As reported by ERR, the funds were raised during a charity campaign August 17-31, including a concert 'Ukraine Thanks' in Tallinn.

According to one of the campaign organisers, Ruslan Trochynsky, the donations will enable the construction and equipping of several bomb shelters for schools in eastern Ukraine with essential supplies.

"The Estonian people, as before, empathise and are ready to help the people of Ukraine. Donations exceeded even our expectations. We planned initially to build bomb shelters only for schools in Dobropillia, but now we can make a contribution to the safety of children in other populated areas," he said.

The charity campaign was conducted by the NGO Kultuuride Ristmik, founded by Ruslan and Terje Trochynsky, in collaboration with Estonian and Ukrainian government institutions and NGOs.

The project will be implemented in collaboration with the Ukrainian social crowdfunding platform "My City" and the non-profit organization "Building Dobropillia," which operates in Dobropillia (Donetsk Oblast).

"Building bomb shelters in schools in frontline areas for Ukrainian children is a matter of the quality of education in the long term, and in the short term, it is a matter of life and death," Trochynskyi emphasized.

Previously, Denmark planned to increase its aid to Ukraine for civilian purposes from 1.2 billion to 1.5 billion Danish kroner (over 200 million euros).

It was also announced that Lithuania would build a school and kindergarten in Bucha and invest 18 million euros in educational infrastructure in the city.
