Ukraine's Embassy Addresses Polish Foreign Ministry over Ukrainian Driver Dying at Border

Thursday, 23 November 2023

The Embassy of Ukraine in Poland has addressed the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs in connection with the death of a Ukrainian driver in a queue at the border, formed due to a protest by Polish hauliers.

"The Embassy urgently addressed another official note to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Poland, demanding to unblock the movement of cargo vehicles. The relevant signals were also communicated to the Ministry of the Interior and the Polish administration," Ukraine’s Ambassador to Poland Vasyl Zvarych wrote on Facebook.

The diplomat stressed that the protest of Polish hauliers threatens the life and health of people and entails a significant threat to road safety, which allows Poland to dissolve the assembly by law.

"We call on the Polish authorities to take decisive action to unblock the movement and prevent Ukrainian, Polish and foreign truck drivers from waiting in multi-kilometre queues without proper conditions for this, becoming hostages to the actions of the protest organisers," he added.
