Slovak Hauliers Have Ended Blockade, Say Border Guards

Friday, 15 December 2023

Slovak hauliers have ended their blockade of the Uzhhorod-Vyšné Nemecké checkpoint indefinitely, and almost 60 trucks have already been cleared to leave Ukraine through the Uzhhorod checkpoint.

"Since the end of the blockade, as of 09:00 on 15 December, almost 60 trucks have been cleared to leave Ukraine through the Uzhhorod checkpoint, and another 1,065 are in the electronic queue for departure from Ukraine," the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine stated.

The Ukrainian border guards reportedly learned on the evening of 14 December that representatives of the Slovak hauliers had unblocked truck traffic entering Slovakia at the Vyšné Nemecké checkpoint indefinitely.

On 14 December, border guards reported that the passage of lorries from Ukraine to Slovakia had been partially resumed. Several trucks were crossing the border per hour.

On the morning of 15 December, Andrii Demchenko, spokesman for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, reported that the number of trucks passing through the unblocked Yahodyn-Dorohusk checkpoint on the border with Poland was about the same as before the blockade.

Earlier, Wojciech Sawa, the head of the Dorohusk municipality, decided to disperse the hauliers’ protest at the border with Ukraine, which has been ongoing since 6 November. The hauliers applied for permission to hold a new protest, but it was denied.
