The governments of Ukraine and Hungary have agreed on amendments to the agreement on border traffic control that will allow the opening of another checkpoint for passenger vehicles, Velyka Palad – Nagyhódos.

According to the Ukrainian Ministry of Development of Communities, Territories and Infrastructure’s statement on 8 April, the amendments to the agreement, signed by Ukraine's Infrastructure Minister Oleksandr Kubrakov and Hungarian Ambassador Heizer Antal also allow empty heavy vehicles weighing more than 7.5 tonnes to move through the Luzhanka-Beregsurány checkpoint.

"We are also considering building a new cargo checkpoint Dyida-Beregdaróc to increase the capacity of the Ukrainian-Hungarian border," the press service of the Ministry of Development quotes Kubrakov.

He added that the Ukrainian government is also working on negotiations on joint customs and border control with Hungary, which will speed up control procedures and reduce border crossing time.
