Sculpture dedicated to 75th anniversary of NATO unveiled in Kyiv

A sculpture dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the North Atlantic Alliance was unveiled on European Square in Kyiv on 16 May.

As reported by the press service of Ukraine's Ministry of Culture and Information Policy (MCIP), the sculpture, located next to the building of the National Philharmonic of Ukraine, was unveiled by the NATO Representation to Ukraine in cooperation with the Joint Victory non-governmental organisation.

As part of the celebrations, an informal meeting was held with the representative of NATO Secretary General Marie-Doha Besancenot and a concert was held at the Philharmonic.

"The sculpture on European Square, which we are unveiling today, symbolises close cooperation between Ukraine and NATO. It is dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the founding of the Alliance," said Taras Shevchenko, Ukraine's Deputy Minister of Culture and Information Policy.

The North Atlantic Treaty Organisation was officially founded on 4 April 1949 by signing a relevant agreement in Washington. At present, NATO has 32 members, with Sweden and Finland being the latest to join after Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

NATO defence ministers will meet at NATO headquarters in Brussels on 13-14 June, with a meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Council taking place on the first day.
