European Commission to unveil defence roadmap on 16 October

Monday, 13 October 2025 —

The European Commission intends to unveil on Thursday 16 October a "roadmap" for implementing the EU's defence capability development programme Readiness 2030 – ReArm Europe.

The action plan to strengthen the European Union's defence capabilities by 2030 is set to be unveiled on 16 October.

"The defence 'roadmap' will be presented on Thursday," the source told European Pravda, adding that the draft will first be discussed at a meeting of the College of European Commissioners.

Following recent incidents involving Russian drones and fighter jets violating the airspace of EU countries, NATO allies are reportedly considering a stronger response to Russia's increasingly provocative actions against member states, including possible military measures.

Meanwhile, the Bundestag has said that Germany may need to amend its constitution to enable effective counteraction against suspicious drones, due to current restrictions on the Bundeswehr linked to the country's Nazi past.

During the European Council meeting on 23-24 October in Brussels, EU leaders are set to discuss the draft "roadmap" for implementing the EU's defence strategy, which includes the establishment of what is known as a drone wall.
