Tusk in response to Trump's comments: Russia and not Zelenskyy rejected US peace plan

Thursday, 15 January 2026 —

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has said that it is Russia that has rejected a US peace plan to end the war in Ukraine, not President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Tusk's comment came after Trump said that he believes that Volodymyr Zelenskyy, rather than Russian leader Vladimir Putin, is slowing down a potential peace deal.

"It is Russia who rejected the peace plan prepared by the US, not Volodymyr Zelenskyy," Tusk wrote on X.

Tusk added that Russia's only response to US peace efforts has been further missile strikes on Ukrainian cities.

"This is why the only solution is to strengthen pressure on Russia. And you all know it," he added.

Before Trump's latest comments about Zelenskyy, The Telegraph reported that Donald Trump is becoming increasingly frustrated with Russian leader Vladimir Putin and now sees him as a bigger obstacle to peace in Ukraine than Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

At a recent press conference at Mar-a-Lago, Trump expressed his personal irritation with Putin, saying: "I'm not thrilled with Putin; he kills too many people."
