EU foreign policy chief: Russia's Oreshnik strike is a warning to Europe and US
EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Kaja Kallas has said that Russia's use of the Oreshnik intermediate-range ballistic missile constitutes an escalation against Ukraine and is intended as a warning to Europe and the United States.
Kallas stressed that repeated Russian attacks only demonstrate Moscow's unwillingness to end the war.
"Putin doesn't want peace, Russia's reply to diplomacy is more missiles and destruction. This deadly pattern of recurring major Russian strikes will repeat itself until we help Ukraine break it," Kallas wrote on X.
Kallas urged EU countries to "dig deeper into their air-defence stocks" and immediately deliver them to Ukraine. In addition, she proposed imposing tougher sanctions on Russia.
Latvia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the overnight Russian attack on Ukraine as an act of blatant barbarism and called for maximum pressure on Russia.
Estonia's Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna, following Russia's overnight air attack on Ukraine, called for pressure on Russia to be intensified to the point where it becomes unbearable.
Moldovan President Maia Sandu stated that overnight, Russia used the Oreshnik ballistic missile to intimidate not only Ukraine but also its partners.
