Detained in Poland Moldovan national tried to stop train carrying oil to Ukraine

Tuesday, 17 February 2026 —

A 25-year-old Moldovan national was detained in Pulawy, Poland, after attempting to halt a freight train carrying oil to Ukraine.

As reported by RMF24, the train consisted of 37 wagons filled with oil. The Moldovan engaged the emergency brakes on three of the wagons. Earlier, he had asked the train crew for permission to board.

"The individual who tried to access the carriage and sought to force the driver to take him to Dorohusk was detained when the driver discovered that the wagons were partially blocked," said Police Chief Marek Boroń.

He added that the emergency braking could have caused the train to derail.

It is known that the detainee entered Poland on Sunday via the Terespol border crossing.

Authorities found a bag containing electronic equipment, phones, SIM cards and various documents.

"He possessed certificates proving his proficiency in Russian," Marek Boroń reported.

Investigations into his motives are ongoing. Authorities are checking whether he was acting on orders from foreign services, but so far this hypothesis has not been confirmed.

The case is being handled by the military division of the District Prosecutor's Office in Lublin.

"The freight train near which this man was present has been inspected; no hazardous materials were found," said Andrzej Fijołek, press officer of the Lublin Voivodeship Police.

The police intervention was part of an operation launched in mid-November after an act of sabotage was detected on this railway line.
