Zelenskyy to meet Merz on Tuesday

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will visit Berlin on Tuesday 14 April, where he is set to meet German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.

A German government spokesperson in a comment to German news portal t-online that Zelenskyy's visit is taking place as part of Ukrainian-German government consultations. The topics of the upcoming talks have not yet been disclosed.

According to journalists, ahead of the visit, Berlin police deployed 50 service vehicles to secure the area around the German chancellor's office.

At the end of March, Merz and Zelenskyy held a phone call, after which the Ukrainian president announced more bilateral work with Germany in April.

The German government has also expressed hope that the results of Hungary's parliamentary elections, won by the Tisza party led by Péter Magyar, will help quickly unblock a €90bn EU loan for Ukraine.
