King of Sweden arrives in Ukraine

King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden and Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard arrived in Lviv on an official visit on 17 April.

According to SVT, the king has already met with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, taking part in a ceremony laying flowers at the graves of fallen Ukrainian soldiers.

Carl XVI Gustaf is also set to visit schools and hospitals in Lviv to learn about people's experiences of war.

This is the first visit to Ukraine by a Swedish monarch since the start of Russia's full-scale war.

Sweden recently confirmed its intention to join the agreement on establishing a Special Tribunal for the Crime of Aggression against Ukraine.

It was also reported this month that Sweden is to send advanced Tridon Mk2 air defence systems to Ukraine.
