Zelenskyy stated after a conversation with Umierov that US plays active role in Ukraine-Russia prisoner exchanges

Monday, 11 May 2026 —

Rustem Umierov, Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council (NSDC), has briefed President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on the results of meetings with US President Donald Trump's special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.

On 11 May, Zelenskyy reported the US "remains engaged in diplomacy and, in particular, has acted as a mediator on the issue of a prisoner exchange".

He said that contacts are now ongoing at the appropriate level to agree on the configuration of the exchange.

"The lists have been handed over, and we expect the American side to play an active role in ensuring the realisation of this agreement. Possible formats for meetings and negotiations at the leadership level aimed at ending Russia's war were also discussed in the United States," Zelenskyy wrote on X.

Zelenskyy said Umierov also gave a separate and detailed report on contacts with countries interested in Drone Deals with Ukraine.

"Nearly 20 countries are currently involved at various stages: four agreements have already been signed, and the first contracts under these agreements are now being prepared. With other countries, preparatory procedures are underway for political arrangements that will open the way for businesses," he added.

It was reported earlier that Rustem Umierov was on his way to the US for a meeting with negotiators representing Donald Trump.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukraine expects Donald Trump's representatives to visit Kyiv around the turn of spring and summer.

Negotiations on the Russo-Ukrainian war have virtually ground to a halt since the US and Israel began their military campaign against Iran. An anticipated visit to Kyiv by Trump's negotiators "after Orthodox Easter" never took place.
