Finnish president: the figures show Ukraine is in best position since war began
Given the casualty figures in the Russia-Ukraine war, Ukraine is today in its most advantageous position since February 2022.
Finnish President Alexander Stubb believes that from Ukraine's perspective, the military situation looks considerably better than at any point during the full-scale war.
"The first year of this war for Ukraine was a struggle for survival. Then three years of resilience. And now it is pure mathematics," the Finnish president said on Yle Radio Suomi's question-and-answer programme.
Stubb says that the current situation is such that for every Ukrainian soldier killed, eight Russian soldiers are killed.
"Furthermore, support for the war in Russia is falling, meaning Ukraine currently holds the upper hand," Stubb assessed.
Stubb has previously stated that Europe will ultimately have to resume dialogue with the Russian leadership and that this largely depends on whether US policy towards Russia and Ukraine aligns with European interests.
His name has also been mentioned among the candidates for potential EU negotiators with Russia.
