Zelenskyy announces preparations for new diplomatic appointments, including in the US
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has announced that decisions are currently being prepared to renew Ukraine's team of diplomats, as he says that new approaches are needed, particularly in the United States.
"We are preparing decisions within the diplomatic team – new approaches are needed in some areas, particularly in the United States. Following the relevant consultations, appointments will be made. Ukraine needs results," Zelenskyy said in his evening address.
Zelenskyy did not specify which staff changes are being considered or who may be appointed ambassador to the US.
On 3 August, Zelenskyy relieved Olha Stefanishyna of her post as Ukraine's ambassador to the US.
On 6 August, the High Anti-Corruption Court imposed a pre-trial restriction on Stefanishyna in the form of UAH 6 million (US$134,000) bail. She is suspected of illicit enrichment and making false asset declarations.
It was reported that Stefanishyna had asked to step down for personal reasons.
