Trump reveals message to Putin: Settle the war

US President Donald Trump has urged Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin to end Russia's war against Ukraine in a brief comment to journalists after arriving for the UN General Assembly in New York.

Trump briefly stopped to speak to journalists as he arrived for the session and was asked what message he has for Putin.

"Settle the war!" Trump replied.

Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump then headed into the UN General Assembly session.

On 21 September, Trump said Russia has lost control of its oil refining industry and called on Moscow to end its "never-ending war" against Ukraine.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will meet Donald Trump in the US on 22 September.

Earlier on 22 September, French President Emmanuel Macron discussed with Donald Trump initiatives for a mutual moratorium between Ukraine and Russia on strikes against energy infrastructure.
