Zelenskyy congratulates Moldovan president on her party's election victory
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has held a conversation with Moldovan President Maia Sandu, congratulating her and her party on a major win in the parliamentary elections and stressing that Russian subversive efforts have failed.
"I spoke with President of Moldova Maia Sandu. I was glad to congratulate Maia on a very important victory and wish her success. These elections showed that Russia's destabilising activity loses, while Moldova in Europe wins," Zelenskyy wrote on X.
Zelenskyy said it was crucial that Moldova managed to defend itself effectively against threats, along with those who supported it.
"We always support Moldova. We will continue working together. Jointly overcoming challenges and building a future where our peoples have strong prospects – in security, in the economy, and therefore in social life," he added.
French President Emmanuel Macron expressed support for Moldova following the election, calling the outcome "resolute".
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said the victory of Moldova's pro-European ruling party offered an important lesson "for us all".
Moldova's ruling party Action and Solidarity (PAS), with 99.5% of ballots counted, has passed the 50% threshold in the parliamentary elections held on Sunday.
This gives PAS an estimated 55 seats in the 101-member parliament, meaning Sandu's party secures an outright majority despite overt efforts by Russia and pro-Russian forces to seize power.
