Media: Rubio and US special envoys to join Trump-Zelenskyy meeting

US special envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent will join the meeting between the presidents of Ukraine and the United States in New York on 22 September.

As reported by Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty correspondent in Washington Alex Raufoglu on X, US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy are due to meet in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly on Tuesday at 13:15.

"Both Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff will join Trump and Zelenskyy at their meeting today, alongside [secretaries] Rubio and Bessent, sources tell me," Raufoglu wrote.

Zelenskyy said he plans to discuss proposals for de-escalating the war with Trump.

After arriving in New York on 22 September, Trump called on Russian ruler Vladimir Putin to end the war against Ukraine.

Meanwhile, French President Emmanuel Macron discussed with his US counterpart initiatives for a mutual moratorium between Ukraine and Russia on strikes against energy infrastructure.
