Hungarian PM Péter Magyar to hold first official meeting with Zelenskyy in Brussels

Wednesday, 14 October 2026 —

Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar has confirmed that he will meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Brussels.

"On Friday morning, I will hold my first official one-on-one meeting with the president of Ukraine," Magyar wrote on Facebook.

Magyar posted a photo in front of an aircraft and announced that he was heading to Brussels for an EU summit.

He noted that the agenda includes further strengthening the protection of Europe's external borders, addressing the energy crisis and approving the EU's seven-year budget.

On 12 October, the Ukrainian parliament approved amendments to the law on education. The changes are necessary for Hungary to agree to the opening of negotiating clusters 2 and 3 in Ukraine's EU accession talks.

On 13 October, the Council of the European Union officially opened two more clusters in Ukraine's EU accession negotiations.
