First tranche under EU's €90bn loan to Ukraine unlikely before June
Ukraine will begin receiving the first payments under the European Union's €90 billion loan no earlier than June 2026.
According to a European Pravda correspondent in Brussels, Ukraine will receive the first tranche of the EU's €90 billion loan in June 2026.
However, the sources' account therefore contradicts a statement made by European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos on 11 May that the first tranche of the EU's €90 billion loan will be paid next week.
The first payments under the EU's €90 billion loan for Ukraine – €5.9 billion in military support and €3.2 billion in macro-financial assistance to support the country's budget – will reach Kyiv no earlier than early June, sources familiar with the internal preparatory process told European Pravda.
According to the sources, the next €2.8 billion tranche under the Ukraine Facility, linked to draft laws adopted in April 2026, will be disbursed no earlier than early June
Three documents needed to begin disbursing the €90 billion in loan funds to Kyiv are still being coordinated with the Ukrainian side.
These are the loan agreement for the full €90 billion, which is currently being discussed with Ukraine and will need to be signed by both sides, an addendum to the loan agreement under the Ukraine Facility and a memorandum of understanding on macro-financial assistance. The memorandum will set out the conditions for one part of the package and, the sources said, is in the final stage of coordination and should be signed next week.
Sources recently disclosed how the EU may allocate 2026 military funds for Ukraine under the €90 billion loan.
As previously reported, the first product procurement schedule in 2026 will be worth around €6 billion, or €5.9 billion precisely, and will be spent on drones manufactured in Ukraine.
It was reported earlier that the heads of EU defence ministries will hold a working lunch on 12 May to discuss military support for Ukraine.
