Polish foreign minister: NATO forces could destroy half of Russia's oil refineries without US involvement

Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski has said that in the event of Russian aggression against NATO, the Alliance's European air forces alone could quickly destroy half of Russia's oil refineries.

Sikorski made the statement on X following his recent visit to Ukraine.

He said that in the event of Russian aggression against NATO, thanks to air superiority, the European part of NATO could destroy half of Russia's oil refineries faster than Ukraine could, even without US involvement.

On Sunday 13 September, Sikorski stressed that the security of Poland and Ukraine is inextricably linked.

Sikorski said that Ukraine and Poland would not allow Russia to dominate them and that this would never happen again. He said they are fighting to ensure that Ukraine itself, not Putin, decides who has the right to be present on Ukrainian territory.

US President Donald Trump has called on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to halt strikes on Russian diesel fuel infrastructure, saying the attacks were causing a global shortage. Sikorski has said in response that he holds a different view.
