Tusk: Russian attacks near the Polish border have now become a permanent occurrence

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has said his country faces "very difficult weeks and months" due to Russia's increasingly aggressive actions towards Ukraine.

"Very difficult weeks and months lie ahead of us, linked to Russia's increasingly aggressive stance towards Ukraine, and unfortunately, these aggressive actions by Russia towards Ukraine are coming increasingly close to our border," Tusk said at a government meeting on 29 September.

Meanwhile, he stated that the government and services are focused on ensuring that the threat does not spread to Polish territory and that "nothing bad happens on the Polish side," Tusk said, as quoted by Polish news channel TVP Info.

Tusk also commented on the incident that occurred on 28 September near the Dorohusk-Yahodyn Polish-Ukrainian border crossing, when a Russian drone struck on the Ukrainian side near the Polish border.

"Every night or during the day, we are forced to repeatedly scramble our aircraft, as Russian attacks near the Polish border, specifically at border crossings and infrastructure near the border, have now become a permanent occurrence," the Polish prime minister said.

He added that Polish services are on heightened alert due to the situation along the country's eastern border.

On 28 September, a Russian drone strike damaged the Yahodyn border checkpoint building on the border with Poland.

Poland scrambled military aircraft and suspended operations at Rzeszów and Lublin airports due to the Russian attack on Ukraine.
